William Wardrop Creations: Man's Imagination and Machines

February 21 – July 5, 2009

Explore the timeline of history as you're introduced to man's inventions of enhanced travel during the Southern Museum's newest exhibit, "William Wardrop's Creations: Man's Imagination and Machines," running from February 21 to July 5.

Wardrop's models, each painstakingly handcrafted, represent the extraordinary timeline of how, throughout the millennia, mankind has slowly but surely conquered the land, seas and sky.

His creations are generally a mixture of mostly cardboard, glue and paint with plastic or wood mixed in. A professional modeler for 20 years, Wardrop was initially influenced by the book and movie "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." Currently, his models span transportation through the air, sea and ground with models of submarines, boats, aircraft and more.

Many of the models featured on Wardrop's Web site will be included in the exhibition.
